Do You Want to Host CUFC9?
(Ottawa, ON – October 1, 2008) Tree Canada, the country’s largest tree planting organization, is seeking proposals by municipalities to host the prestigious 9th Canadian Urban Forest Conference (CUFC) in October, 2010.
The CUFC brings together approximately 350 foresters, urban planners, policy makers and municipal experts together to develop new strategies in preserving and promoting urban forests throughout Canada. Since 80% of Canadians live in cities, trees play a large role in providing physical and psychological benefits to all. This conference is a chance for municipalities to profile urban forests in their communities.
For municipalities to be considered, they should submit a proposal demonstrating the following:
- Urban forest program history and commitment
- Accessibility to a major airport and other transportation
- Venue choice (if possible) and willingness to sign hotel agreement
- Willingness to assume the Chair of the Organizing Committee, have backing of Council and staff, and allow Tree Canada to participate on the Committee
- Strong community involvement
- To allow for 50% of the profits to go towards a local legacy project, and 50% of the profits returned to Tree Canada
Tree Canada, the host organization of the conference will provide:
- Organizational support and website registration
- Seed funding
- Communications and program continuity including registrations and sponsors
- Welcome address and Awards presentation
Proposals will be accepted until November 30, 2008. Please send all proposals to tcf@treecanada.ca
