Dorothy Dobbie Dorothy Dobbie
Chair of Tree Canada and
President and founder of Pegasus Publications Inc

Dorothy was the M.P. for Winnipeg South from 1988 - 1993 serving as Parliamentary Secretary in a number of portfolios. She was the Co-Chair of the Joint Parliamentary Committee of the House and Senate on the Renewal of Canada, out of which evolved the Charlottetown Accord. She is the former Executive Vice-President of Naylor Communications Inc. and was the first woman elected President of the Winnipeg Chamber of Commerce. Currently she is the President and founder of Pegasus Publications Inc., the publisher of Manitoba Gardener, Ontario Gardener, Alberta Gardener, SMART Connections and a number of magazines, journals and directories. She broadcasts a weekly gardening show on the Winnipeg radio station, CJOB.


Timo MakinenTimo Makinen
Vice-Chair of Tree Canada

Timo is the Sustainable Development Manager for Shell's international sulphur and bitumen businesses. Prior to joining Shell in 2005, he held positions with Vizon SciTec Inc., B.C. Gas Utility Ltd., and BC Hydro. He is a registered professional engineer in B.C., and a director of the Canadian Institute of Energy. Timo graduated from the University of Toronto with a BASc (Hons.) in Chemical Engineering and obtained an MBA and Masters of Natural Resources Management from Simon Fraser University. He has co-authored numerous papers and frequently presented on issues related to energy and environment linkages and sustainable development.


André JuneauAndré Juneau
Past Chair of Tree Canada
Retired Canadian Forest Service - Cap Rouge, QC

André Juneau brings a wealth of experience to the Foundation having worked for the Canadian Forest Service for 36 years as a Research Assistant, Scientific Officer and Program Development Officer.

He has also served in senior positions in a number of public organizations. He is currently the Chair of the National Battlefield Commission (Plains of Abraham Park) and was Mayor of Cap-Rouge from 1979-1991. He served in senior positions with the Communauté urbaine du Québec (CUQ) including the Chair of the Management and Environment Commission and as Vice-Chair of the Executive Committee.

He has received numerous awards including the prestigious Canada's 125th Anniversary Medal in 1992 for his contributions to Canadian society, the Queen's Silver Jubilee Medal in 1977, the 2001 Year of the Volunteer Medal and most recently the 50th Anniversary of the Queen Medal.



Dr. Andrew Kenney

Dr. Andrew Kenney, is a Senior Lecturer at the Faculty of Forestry and Graduate Student Co-Ordinator of the Institute of Environmental Studies at the University of Toronto. One of Canada's leading authorities on urban forestry, Andy has also held positions with the Federation of Ontario Naturalists and as Director of the Urban Forests Centre, U of T. Over the past 7 years he has authored more than 20 publications on urban forestry and fast growing hardwoods, and plays a major role in working with professional and community groups including the 5th Canadian Urban Forest Conference (2002), International Society of Arboriculture and the Ontario Urban Forest Council.


Arnold Zweig

Arnold ZweigArnold Zweig is a leading environmental lawyer having articled with David Estrin - one of Ontario's top environmental solicitors. He practised in various partnerships until setting up his own firm specializing in civil litigation, Ontario Municipal Board representation, environmental assessment, wrongful dismissal, construction disputes and franchise, trademark and patent litigation.

He was on the Board of the Canadian Environmental Law Association from 1981-1987 and taught environmental law and development at Ryerson University from 1980-2002 designing one of Canada's first GIS (Geographical Information Systems) and the Law courses for the university's Continuing Education programs.

He has a Bachelor of Science from University of Toronto majoring in environmental studies, working each summer for the Ontario Ministry of Natural Resources before graduating from the University of Windsor's Law School.


Gary BullGary Bull

Gary Bull is an Associate Professor working in the Department of Forest Resources Management at the University of British Columbia and one of Canada's leading forest-carbon experts. He spent most of his early career working in a consultative capacity with forest products companies, resource based communities, various government agencies and environmental non-governmental organizations.



Bill Vander ZalmBill Vander Zalm

Bill Vander Zalm was Premier of British Columbia from 1986 - 1991. He served as the mayor for the City of Surrey (1969 - 1975) before moving into provincial politics as the Minister of Municipal Affairs (1978 - 1981) and the Minister of Education (1981 -1983). Bill Vander Zalm is a self described "nature lover" and operates his own nursery "Van's Inc." specializing in lilacs in Ladner, B.C.



Amery Boyer

Amery Boyer is Chief Administrative Officer  (CAO) for the Town of Annapolis Royal, N.S.; the owner of The Human Element, a human resources business; and the original and contributing editor of the Atlantic version of The Human Resources Advisor, a human resources reference manual for the four Atlantic provinces published by First Reference of Mississauga, Ont.   Amery has worked for federal, provincial, regional and municipal governments as well as the private sector.  Certifications include staffing, staff relations and customer service.


David Domke
 
David Domke is the Manager of Parks and Open Space Division for the City of Winnipeg, where he oversees more than 700 staff members and coordinates urban projects. He worked as an environmental consultant for several years in Saskatoon. David graduated from the University of Winnipeg and has a Masters of Natural Resources Management from the University of Manitoba.

 


Christian Gagnon

Christian Gagnon works for Dessau Inc., an engineering consulting firm, and serves as its Deputy Director of Service Center Expertise and Environmental Sustainable Development (Quebec City office). He is responsible for environmental impact studies for Dessau. A graduate of the University of Quebec in Montreal, Christian has over 26 years experience in the environmental field, developing and managing large projects for the public and private sectors.


 


 Janet Feddes-Calpas

Janet is the Executive Director for the Society to Prevent Dutch Elm Disease (STOPDED). She has administered the Alberta Provincial Dutch elm disease (DED) Prevention Program for the last 15 years. Ten of these years were with the Alberta Department of Agriculture and Rural Development and the past five years with STOPDED.  In 1996 Janet wrote the "Alberta DED Response Plan" which was the guiding document for ensuring the preservation of Alberta's American Elms against the threat of DED. To this day, Alberta remains free from DED. Janet organized and managed the completion of the Alberta-wide elm inventory, a $2.2 million dollar project, successfully completed in 1999.

Janet is co-owner and operator of Green Logic Greenhouse Ltd. which provides private research facilities and expertise to the horticulture and agriculture industries. She holds a Horticulture Diploma from Olds College and is a Journeyman Landscape Gardener.


Jim Schedler

Jim is Vice President of Marketing for Irving Consumers Products North America. In this role, he is responsible for both their branded paper products along with the companies' private label program. Jim has an extensive consumer package goods background in sales and marketing with Campbell's, Sara Lee and General Electric. From 1993 to 2001, he was located in Europe where he was one of seven members of the Iams Pet Food Worldwide Management team. He then joined Procter & Gamble when this business was sold.  He ran his own retail Tack and Feed Superstore for five years prior to joining Irving. Jim graduated from McMaster University with a Bachelor of Commerce magna cum laude.
